Today I had the opportunity to find the beauty in something that many are cursing. Snow! Well, in my case, snowflakes. We are having the first big snow of this winter and of 2011, and I have been patiently waiting for this day for weeks! I love watching it snow! I just don’t like driving in it. (Like many people!) So when I saw it snowed last night I was up at 6am, and if you know me, I am not an early riser, AT ALL! I guess I was just too excited to finally have the chance to photograph snowflakes! Yes, I photographed those teeny tiny, barely visible to the naked eye unless in clumps, snowflakes!
I didn’t use any special equipment, just my camera, a Nikon D90 and my baby, err Tamron lens. I just used it in a way that I didn’t know was possible until a few weeks ago. I took the lens off, flipped it around backwards, and shot through the opposite end. This was very tricky because I had to keep one finger on the aperture slide, hold the lens with the same hand, and then control the shutter button and hold the camera in my other. I was so scared I was going to drop my lens and blubber like a baby, but, I made it through, and I’m pretty satisfied with my first RLM or reverse lens macro shots. (I won’t go into any more detail of RLM, but if you are interested in learning more please send me an email!)
And here they are! I assure you these are 100% real, geniune snowflakes that fell in my yard in St. Joseph, Missouri today!
